Netcraft Extension Help Pages

Tutorial - Reporting a Suspicious URL

When you visit a page that you believe to be a phishing site, or contains fraudulent or deceptive content, we ask that you report it so that other Extension users will benefit from your vigilance. The more sites that are reported, the more useful the Extension will become for everyone.

Using the Netcraft Extension

Report suspicious links by clicking on the "Report phish" button in the Extension, accessed by clicking on the Netcraft logo:

Report URL button in the Extension

After you report a URL, Netcraft will examine the report and block the page if they find it has inappropriate content.

Using a Web Browser

Report one or many suspicious links using report.netcraft.com. After you report a URL, Netcraft will examine the report and block the page if they find it has inappropriate content.

Using your Email Client

Report suspicious links sent to you via email by forwarding the message to us directly at scam@netcraft.com. After you report a URL, Netcraft will examine the report and block the page if they find it has inappropriate content.

Practice Blocking an Attack

You can practice blocking an attack by:

  1. Requesting a sample of a fictional phishing attack mail.
  2. Visiting the URL contained in the mail that you receive.
  3. Click on the Netcraft logo in the Extension.
  4. Select "Report Phish" in the menu/pop up that appears.
  5. Fill in and confirm the form.
  6. You can test that the URL has been blocked by re-visiting it after reporting (until it's automatically removed from our systems after one month).
